mayfield brooks and Tammy Nguyen work across multiple mediums and disciplines to explore history, memory, and change. brook’s movement-based practice, Improvising While Black, attends to and engages in “disorientation, dissent, wildness, ancestral healing, rest and repair.” Tammy Nguyen’s new book, O, shifts formally and temporally to trace the history of a smile, a family, a very deep cave.

mayfield brooks improvises while black and is based in Lenapehoking, the unceded land of the Lenape people, also known as Brooklyn, New York. brooks is a movement-based performance artist, vocalist, urban farmer, writer, and wanderer.

Tammy Nguyen creates paintings, drawings, artist books, prints, and zines that explore the intersections between geopolitics, ecology, and lesser-known histories.
