Adèle Choubard
Born: Lille, France — 1993 / Living: Paris, France
Interview by Speciwomen — December 2015
Speciwomen: Who are you?
Adèle Choubard: I am originally from Lille in the North of France. I left home when I was 18 and settled in Paris in order to pursue theatrical training at the Cours Florent. Nowadays, I live in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, in a small apartment, and I am about to turn 22.
S: How did you get into cinema?
AC: When I was 13, I applied online for the feature film LOL’s auditions. After a few rounds, I got accepted, and started my first filming experience, which was extraordinary. The movie then allowed me to get an agent, and to be able to keep going on this track shooting in multiple TV shows such as Tiger Lily and Voix De Garage.
S: Who inspires you?
AC: Jacques Audiard, Maïwenn, Olivier Assayas, Cédric Klapisch, Alain Resnais, Pialat, Truffaut. But also Woody Allen, Gus Van Sant, Thomas Vinterberg, Joachim Trier, Jacques Tati, Buster Keaton, Arnaud Desplechin. There are so many! Some actresses I admire too are Juliette Binoche, Julianne Moore, Emmanuelle Devos, and Audrey Hepburn who I admire immensely. The list is long. It takes a whole life! And my loved ones, such as my little sister who writes a lot and who I admire deeply.
S: Are you working on anything currently?
AC: I have a few shooting days for a TV show in February. I play a patient in a hospital, with a really rare disease. Otherwise, I am working on a play project that one of my comedian friends is directing. At the same time, I am preparing for the CNSAD (Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique) contest which requires a lot of work and time from me too.
S: Do you have any other interests?
AC: I truly love music. I love to sing. I work on compositions with a friend of mine in a, I would say, folk atmosphere, pretty hovering. We work in harmonies, with a guitar and some electro effects. It’s really nice! But I miss singing Rock’N’Roll in Paris, sweating cellars with my old band, a lot.
S: What are your favorite places?
AC: I really like my neighborhood (the 5th arrondissement), it feels like an old Paris with its old shops. I feel like in another time sometimes, knowing that so many great artists lived here. My favorite places are walking around in the Jardin du Luxembourg, but also the very lively neighborhood of Belleville or the 19th arrondissement, near the docks. In the summer it is nice. There is a bar on a barge where I go often to chat about projects but also drink good wine with my close friends.
S: Do you have future plans?
AC: For the moment, I am focusing on the contest for this year. I had to put in “stand by” the writing of a script that I have been working in collaboration for two years. I hope to resume in the near future. For the following, only the future can tell.
