"In Between Things – Do we have more?” — Anna F Schwarz and Dilruba Balak

In 2019 Anna F Schwarz reached out to Dilruba Balak, a Master's studies student at the University for Applied Arts Vienna who was stopped short due to a wrongful eviction by the Austrian authorities. The two artists met in person for the first time in July 2022 in Istanbul as part of an artist residency by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and participated at an art festival in the same year (Mahalla Festival).

Their collaboration journeyed through conversations, a linked working process to exploring the opposition that united them. A series of drawings, sculptures, and paintings have been developed, and this layout flowed into the work of two portrait paintings, where they portrayed each other. Those portraits "In Between Things - Unpredictable Emotions" are on display at the entrance hall of the Austrian Cultural Forum / Avusturya Kültür Ofisi.

Their new documentary movie "In Between Things" will be screened at the reception night at Austrian Cultural Forum / Avusturya Kültür Ofisi on 1st of September 2023 with a following artist conversation with Anna F Schwarz and Dilruba Balak.
