With #WomenMatter, photojournalist and media agency Dysturb highlights portraits of women who inspire change and educate new generations about equality and diversity.
Photography is a formidable weapon to continue to raise awareness and to fight for the respect of the rights of women and gender minorities in the world. The attack on the right to abortion in the United States cruelly reminds us how much the rights of women or gender minorities to dispose of their bodies must never be taken for granted. From China to Zanzibar, from the United States to Egypt, via Poland and Argentina, #WomenMatter reveals the unique perspective of women photographers who accurately capture the daily lives of other inspiring women around the world. A plural look and fieldwork that allows us to decenter ourselves and to inform ourselves about multiple geographical, political and cultural contexts.
Conceived by Dysturb, a creative agency and media founded by photojournalists who have covered conflicts and humanitarian crises for more than fifteen years, #WomenMatter is a long series of multidisciplinary exhibitions, performances and events to raise awareness , provoke discussions and deconstruct stereotypes. Founded in 2014, the collective deploys poster campaigns in the streets of the world, to make visible what cannot be seen. Through more than 80 events in 30 countries, and 50 cities, it raises awareness on great causes such as gender equality, inclusivity, body positivity, diversity, climate change, migrants and refugees.
