Curated by guest curator Deeksha Nath, the exhibition ‘Mycelial Legacies’ builds on the collection of the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation to bring together paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, installations and videos of 22 women artists, spanning six decades, with affiliations to the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S University Baroda.
The show sets up the diversity of aesthetics, material and formal experimentation, broadening the knowledge and understanding of art from Baroda. Through themes of interdisciplinary practice, the enthusiasm for the living arts and the relationship between the body and space, the exhibition explores notions of locational identities and the evolution of artistic practice. In doing so the exhibition seeks to codify the contribution of women artists to the development of the Faculty, and to the shaping of its broader influences, and broaden an institutional legacy that has traditionally been signposted in terms of the contributions of its male stalwarts.
